Coming off the most successful season in school history in 2012-13 and a #5 ranking in the country, the 2013-14 version of the Highland Community College women’s basketball team starts the season at number eight in the national pre-season poll. The Scottie women will tip off the 2013-14 season as they take the floor this Friday night, November 1, at 7:00 pm against Doane College in the friendly confines of Allen Fieldhouse. This is the highest pre-season ranking the Scotties have experienced in the program’s history, but the team will have to overcome the loss of six sophomores and have only one returning starter.
“I think the pre-season ranking shows great respect for our program. However, we can’t take that ranking to the store and buy a gallon of milk. The true test will be how we grow as a team and how we evolve as the season progresses. Basketball is a long season and nobody has ever had a successful season based on pre-season rankings,” stated Scottie head coach BJ Smith.
The Scotties are hosting the Bill and Annie Mueller Classic this Friday and Saturday. Highland plays Doane, Nebraska Friday night at 7 and Iowa Lakes Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm. The Scottie men will then open their season at 5:00 when they host the Central Methodist College junior varsity.
